- आयोग के पास दीवानी अदालत की सभी शक्तियाँ हैं और इसकी कार्यवाही एक न्यायिक विशेषता है।
- यह मानवाधिकारों के उल्लंघन की शिकायतों की जाँच के उद्देश्य से केंद्र सरकार या राज्य सरकार के किसी अधिकारी या जाँच एजेंसी की सेवाओं का उपयोग करने के लिये अधिकृत है।
- यह किसी मामले को उसके घटित होने के एक वर्ष के भीतर देख सकता है, अर्थात् आयोग को मानवाधिकारों का उल्लंघन किये जाने की तारीख से एक वर्ष की समाप्ति के बाद किसी भी मामले की जाँच करने का अधिकार नहीं है।
- आयोग के कार्य मुख्यतः सिफारिशी प्रकृति के हैं।
- इसके पास मानवाधिकारों के उल्लंघन करने वालों को दंडित करने की शक्ति नहीं है और न ही पीड़ित को आर्थिक सहायता सहित कोई राहत देने की शक्ति है।

All the human beings are binded to follow the all human rights which are adopted by the United Nations organization through Universal Declaration of human rights 1948. Human rights is moral principles or norms that describe certain standards of human behaviour, and are regularly protected as legal rights in municipal and international law. Everyone born in this world have human rights that must be protected by the law. According to United Nations, there are 30 basic human rights that recognized around the world. So what are the 30 human rights according to Universal Declaration of Human Rights by United Nations Basic human rights recognized around the world delacred by United Nations through Universal Declaration of Human Rights. These declaration held by United Nations General Assembly at the Palais de Chaillot in Paris, France on 10 December 1948.
